Star Citizen 3.0 Fixes, Workarounds & Troubleshooting

I have complied a list of common fixes and workarounds for Star Citizen 3.0 LIVE problems a lot of them came from Blazed Always’ Help Desk Project which is always getting updated!
General Error Troubleshooting Tips:
  • Close any instances of the game or launcher (ensure they’re closed in task manager)
  • Delete your USER folder (INSTALL\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE)
  • Run launcher as administrator
  • Click ‘settings’ top right then click ‘verify’ to verify files
  • Ensure launcher is whitelisted in your firewall
  • To refresh the launcher: Press this key combination all together: CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+ R
  • Otherwise perhaps the servers are having an issue, or the server kicked everyone out
  • Ensure these ports are open on your router: TCP 8000 – 8020 and UDP 64090 – 64110
  • Make Sure you have the Latest 3.0 LIVE Launcher – http://robertsspaceindustries.com/download

  • Ensure that the delta patcher is whitelisted in your firewall (double check)
  • Otherwise perhaps the servers are having issues or everyone was kicked from the server
  • If you continue to have this error and have downloaded the game with the new delta patcher:
1. Cut and paste the ‘Live’ folder somewhere else (Usually at \Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE)
2. Delete the launcher and install it again (to delete: Ensure launcher is completely closed, then delete the delta patcher folder (usually Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\RSI Launcher)
3. Start downloading the game, then when it starts downloading the 39GB file, immediately pause the download
4. Close launcher and copy back the ‘Live’ folder – place it back in its original location from step 1
5. Re-Open the launcher, click ‘settings’ button then click ‘verify’.

3.0 Launcher Issues
Black loading screen after joining Crusader
This is the queue to join the game. Unfortunately many people are trying to connect, so the wait in line to load may be quite long. Keep waiting, or try again later. It may take 10+ minutes. You can also try selecting a different game server before pressing the ‘Visit Spaceport’ button. Try EU, US, AUS for example (top right).
You can check if you’re frozen/stuck on the loading screen by opening the console ( ~ key ) – check for anything that says ‘disconnected’. If it says ‘connected’ that means you’re still loading. Any ‘keep alive’ messages are also a good sign.
You can open the console ( ~ key) and type r_displayinfo 3 into the console (then press enter) to show the FPS and other details overlay to help show you are not frozen.
Can’t login to launcher
  • Verify and make sure you’re logging in with your **secret** LOGIN ID username – check it by going to https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/security
  • Check your email SPAM folders for a missed “activate your account” message from no-reply@robertsspaceindustries.com
  • If can’t find your ‘activate your account’ email – do a password reset, which will send you an email (clicking the link in the email will activate the account) (1. Click ‘my rsi’ top right – 2. Click ‘account recovery)
Launcher freezes or is extremely slow to use
  • You may be using windows classic mode on windows 7 – try using Aero mode (Windows transparency) in Windows Theme settings.
  • Run the launcher as administrator.
  • Try choosing “Windows 7 theme”
Constant launcher crash
  • Disable any possible background apps like MSI Afterburner/overclocking tools/overlays etc. For example Razer Tartarus software, teamviewer, discord, steam, windows 10 overlay, nvidia overlays  Disable them, do not let it load in the background first, disable and restart the PC. They can mess things up.
  • Ensure your audio is enabled with a device plugged in (yes seriously)
  • Have you tried restarting your computer?
  • Minimum system specs: Quad core CPU, GPU with 1GB+ vRAM, 16GB RAM, plus Windows 7,8 or 10 (64 bit) – make sure you conform to these – if you have 8gb ram that may cause issues
  • Make sure Windows updates, video drivers and other drivers are updated
  • Ensure .NET framework are up to date (you need 3.5 *and* at least 4.5) – you can check here for what versions you have (folder names) [ C:\Windows\Microsoft .NET\Framework64 ]
  • Make sure your firewalls / antivirus aren’t blocking RSILauncher.exe or Starcitizen.exe
  • If you have it, delete the USER folder (usually at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Public\USER)
  • Run RSILauncher as administrator, then use the Launcher’s VERIFY button BEFORE you click LAUNCH.
