Welcome to the New Redacted.tv!

Welcome to the New Redacted.tv!

The wait is finally over!  The team has been working on the new site for over a year now.  With the great content drought of 2017 a lot of things were put on hold and the new Redacted.tv was one of them.  I am so pleased to share with you all of our hard work!

You can now browse posts on guides for the game, lore, weekly news, and hardware and software reviews related to Star Citizen and much more.  You can also reach all of the content the team makes directly from the site, from live streams to weekly podcasts all the way over to an article on how to haul cargo.

The site is still hosted on the google compute engine, should be fast and stable and always ready for you to read!

2018 is going to be a great year for Star Citizen and we hope you will join the team in what we hope to be a great year for the Redacted team!  The pages here will continue to evolve over the coming months as we hope to improve the site and your experiences here.  If you have any feedback or feature requests please comment below!

Star Citizen 2018 Roadmap Released!

Star Citizen 2018 Roadmap Released

On January 5th 2018, backers received and email from RSI that linked to this production update on the teams plans for 2018.  They gave us the full roadmap that is planned for Star Citizens development for the entire year.  As we heard at Citizencon, CIG plans to deliver quarterly releases starting in March of 2018, followed by June, then September, and finally wrapping up the year with their last major release in December.

The first release in March will be less about adding gameplay features, but all about performance optimizations and improvements to what was released for 3.0.  They do plan on adding a few gameplay features, but none of them were mentioned at all.  While I did hear some negative comments about the lack of gameplay additions in this patch, performance improvements make the current gameplay a lot more fun and simply playable.  In my opinion, some of the combat missions with sub 20fps are difficult and not enjoyable.  As a joystick user, the issues with ESP are frustrating.  A lot of these things could be improved simply by the game just being smoother.

In June, we get our first major gameplay content drops.  The team hopes to add the first iteration (tier 0) versions of: Mining, Salvaging, Mobile Refuling, and Repair.  While they will be first implementation and very basic most likely, this is the release most people are really excited for.  In addition to all of this, they want to add the ability to create player missions, which basically allows us to trade things and money.  Even more, the team is going to improve on the subsumption AI for both on foot and in ships.  I do believe we will see improvements on the AI around the landing zones before this though.

Moving on to September, CIG would like to add object container streaming.  This is a massively important piece of tech that needs to come online that will allow the game to expand into a proper universe.  For now we will see additional destinations added to the Stanton System in this patch, but this is the underlying tech to actually build the universe as we understand it.  With this addition the team would like to start testing land claims.

The last release in December is really vague, where the post states “Now that our streaming tech has been tested and can support the huge amount of new data content introduced, we will continue to expand the Stanton System, allowing players to explore, fulfill their career choices, and do many different types of missions, either with friends or on their own.”  It is hard to tell what exactly we will be exploring or playing in the final two patches, but you have to imagine a planet or two will be dropping in September and the complete system in Decemeber.

I think its very important to understand one thing, CIG CLEARLY states that they want to do quarterly releases REGARDLESS of what content is finished and ready for release.  If something isn’t ready it will get pushed back to the next release.  This absolutely will happen, be logical here with your expectations of 2018.  We hope to have a full Stanton System, and that’s it.  We will not see a Star Citizen release in 2018, but we will see a lot of the gameplay features that are needed fleshed out based on the expectations from the team, but again, please remember these aren’t promises, they are the teams goals.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, what are your thoughts on CIG’s plans for Star Citizen in 2018?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below.  Like what we do here at [REDACTED] Consider supporting us on Patreon or even buying some merchandise on our TeePublic Store.  See you in the next post!

3.0 Launcher Issues
Black loading screen after joining Crusader
This is the queue to join the game. Unfortunately many people are trying to connect, so the wait in line to load may be quite long. Keep waiting, or try again later. It may take 10+ minutes. You can also try selecting a different game server before pressing the ‘Visit Spaceport’ button. Try EU, US, AUS for example (top right).
You can check if you’re frozen/stuck on the loading screen by opening the console ( ~ key ) – check for anything that says ‘disconnected’. If it says ‘connected’ that means you’re still loading. Any ‘keep alive’ messages are also a good sign.
You can open the console ( ~ key) and type r_displayinfo 3 into the console (then press enter) to show the FPS and other details overlay to help show you are not frozen.
Can’t login to launcher
  • Verify and make sure you’re logging in with your **secret** LOGIN ID username – check it by going to https://robertsspaceindustries.com/account/security
  • Check your email SPAM folders for a missed “activate your account” message from no-reply@robertsspaceindustries.com
  • If can’t find your ‘activate your account’ email – do a password reset, which will send you an email (clicking the link in the email will activate the account) (1. Click ‘my rsi’ top right – 2. Click ‘account recovery)
Launcher freezes or is extremely slow to use
  • You may be using windows classic mode on windows 7 – try using Aero mode (Windows transparency) in Windows Theme settings.
  • Run the launcher as administrator.
  • Try choosing “Windows 7 theme”
Constant launcher crash
  • Disable any possible background apps like MSI Afterburner/overclocking tools/overlays etc. For example Razer Tartarus software, teamviewer, discord, steam, windows 10 overlay, nvidia overlays  Disable them, do not let it load in the background first, disable and restart the PC. They can mess things up.
  • Ensure your audio is enabled with a device plugged in (yes seriously)
  • Have you tried restarting your computer?
  • Minimum system specs: Quad core CPU, GPU with 1GB+ vRAM, 16GB RAM, plus Windows 7,8 or 10 (64 bit) – make sure you conform to these – if you have 8gb ram that may cause issues
  • Make sure Windows updates, video drivers and other drivers are updated
  • Ensure .NET framework are up to date (you need 3.5 *and* at least 4.5) – you can check here for what versions you have (folder names) [ C:\Windows\Microsoft .NET\Framework64 ]
  • Make sure your firewalls / antivirus aren’t blocking RSILauncher.exe or Starcitizen.exe
  • If you have it, delete the USER folder (usually at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Public\USER)
  • Run RSILauncher as administrator, then use the Launcher’s VERIFY button BEFORE you click LAUNCH.
  • Otherwise, check here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/faq/launcher

Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 is Live!

Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 is Live!

The highly anticipated 3.0 patch is finally open to all backers after many months of testing with the Evocati Test Flight and on the Public Test Universe.  One year ago on December 24th 2016 Star Citizen 2.6 with Star Marine was released to the public.  This was the last major patch released by CIG to it’s backers until this weeks 3.0 patch.  Given the amount of time in between the two patch releases, there is a lot added to the latest update.  We will highlight the major changes in this post, but you can read the full patch notes for the 3.0 patch here.

Delta Patcher-

The Delta patcher may have been more anticipated by hardcore backers than any of the gameplay additions to the 3.0 patch.  This allows the backers to download updates much more efficiently than we have in the past, especially backers with data caps this helps immensely.  If you would like to download and install the new patcher click here.

Three Crusader Moons-

While this addition is less than what was originally said to be in the 3.0 patch (we were suppose to be landing on not only moons, but planets with cities and multiple biomes), the impact is still incredibly high.  The first time you go land on Daymar and see the atmospheric effects of the entry burn, there is nothing like it.  I will share CIGs description of the moons from their website below:

  • Cellin
    • Cellin is Crusader’s closest satellite. Visitors to the moon are greeted by the massive gas giant sitting prominently in the sky above. If you can take your eyes off the sky, then you’ll notice that Cellin’s flat surface is punctuated by dormant volcanoes.

  • Daymar
    • With the thickest atmosphere of the three moons, Daymar is covered with winding canyons and rugged mountain ranges, giving it the appearance of an arid, desert planet. Though Crusader has been granting mining licenses to tap into the moon’s resources, the atmosphere is unbreathable for Humans.

  • Yela
    • The third and final Crusader moon is Yela, the moon’s covered in ice crust on certain sections of the moon, while other parts are dominated by a typical mixture of soil and snow. The temperatures are quite bracing here, so plan to bring a thermos of tea or a nip of something stronger to help stay warm.

  • Levski
    • The home of the People’s Alliance, this new landing zone was founded in an abandoned mining facility as an egalitarian alternative to the UEE.

Surface Outposts-

On the planets there are a number of locations we can land, specifically surface outposts that are prominently displayed on our HUD’s.  These outposts are centered around the new dynamic missions system.

Mission System Update-

No more ICC missions!  We are now able to access our mission manager through our Mobiglass and accept over 20 different mission types, some with good and evil variants to take advantage of the reputation system.

  • Mission Givers

The team added two missions givers to the map, Miles Ekhart, and Ruto who are triggered through the reputation system and give the backers a different take on the mobiglass based mission system as you have to actually visit them (once summoned) to take their missions.

Items 2.0-

The items system has been updated in this patch that gives the player and their friends a lot more control with the ships.  We are now able to lock our ship from the cockpit as well as open doors using the interaction system.

Interaction System-

This is one of the most impactful changes to the game in this patch, almost everything revolves around it.  We use it to open doors, pick up cargo, place it, access MFDs, and other screens, as well as a number of other things.  By holding “F” you gain a number of options available to interact with items all over the world around you.

Cargo-

You can now purchase cargo at one location and sell it at another for a profit.  This is the first non-combat related gameplay added to the game yet.  I am really looking forward to seeing them implement more gameplay, but so much relies on them getting cargo working perfectly.

mobiGlas Apps-

Four major apps were added that better allow the backers to enjoy gameplay and customize their ships and characters:

  • Contract Manager: This is a redesign of the mission App that is currently available within mobiGlas and is the next step in allowing players more control over their mission tracking.
  • Personal Manager: This App will allow players to review their inventory and customize various aspects of their suit and weapons.
  • Vehicle Manager: This mobiGlas app allows the Player to modify/customize their ships directly rather than using the upright terminals.
  • StarMap: The Starmap will be introduced to allow players to view the Persistent Universe at large and select planets to quantum travel to.

New & Updated FPS weapons-

The team has been showing us updates to these guns for a LONG time, I am very pleased to have them in our hands.  Expect to see a deep dive into each one of these guns in the near future from the [REDACTED] team members.

  • BEHR P8-SC – SMG
  • APAR Scourge – Railgun
  • [UPDATED] KLWE Gallant – Rifle
  • [UPDATED] KLWE Arrowhead – Sniper Rifle
  • [UPDATED] KSAR Devastator-12 – Shotgun
  • [UPDATED] KLWE Arclight – Pistol
  • [UPDATED] Gemini LH86 – Pistol
  • [UPDATED] BEHR P4-AR – Assault Rifle

New & Updated Ships/Vehicles-

The highlight ship of the group is clearly the update Cutlass Black, i think they did a great job, and its useful in basically every mission available in the patch.

  • [Updated] Cutlass Black
  • Drake Dragonfly
  • Aopoa Nox
  • RSI Ursa Rover
  • RSI Constellation Aquila
  • MISC Prospector
  • Updated RSI Aurora
  • Aegis Sabre Raven

Crytek vs. Star Citizen Lawsuit [UPDATED]

CryTek vs. Star Citizen Lawsuit

On 12/12/17 the German publisher Crytek, famous for games like Far Cry and Crysis filed a complaint to a California District Court stating that Cloud Imperium Game was in breach of contract with them.  Crytek believes that CIG entered an agreement with them on these three key points as well as others:

  1. CIG promised to use CryEngine exclusively on Star Citizen.
  2. To collaborate with Crytek on their work with the engine including any changes they made.
  3. Protect Crytek’s intellectual property.

Their complaint alleges that:

  1. CIG decided to use the CryEngine early on for not just one game, but two Star Citizen and the single player campaign Squadron 42.  CryTek seems to be seeking damages on the unpaid licensing fees for the second game.
  2. They did not collaborate.
  3. They share CryEngine code on a number of their weekly shows, namely Bug Smashers.

I am not a lawyer by any means, I just wanted to share the basic facts with the community.  BoredGamerUK did a short video on this topic here, but I really want to send you over to a YouTuber that I like to watch when things like this arise.  It’s called The Lawful Masses with Leonard French:

UPDATE:

BoredGamerUK did an video update on CIG’s response to the lawsuit from CryTek:

I will let you formulate your own opinion on the subject, and if you would like to discuss this topic please leave a comment below. Like what we do here at [REDACTED], consider supporting us on Patreon or even buying some merchandise on our TeePublic Store.  See you in the next post!

Windows 10 Ultimate Gaming Tweak Guide

THIS GUIDE WAS UPDATED 30th DECEMBER 2017 & is STAR CITIZEN 3.0 READY
I play a lot of games and haven’t found a comprehensive guide on Tweaking Windows 10 for Gaming, Performance, System Tweaks, Overclocking & Ping/Latency Improvements and all the relatively simple things you can do to give you better performance in games, a better ping online and make the right choices for your needs, I am sure there are changes here that some people will disagree with, feel free to message me & I will change anything that gets out of date or is no longer working.
You can Support These Guides with the Links Below:

Important Star Citizen Specific Guides & Info
This Guide is in the process of being fleshed out, when it’s done it will be an article & video, each of the sections will have a skip timecode or bookmark too. And if you are unsure about a setting, quickly google it to make sure you aren’t wrecking your OS, I take Zero responsibility for anything going wrong, all I have done here is compiled and tested the Tweaks and for ME they work and are Safe.
Why Windows 10?
General Gaming Tweaks
Online Gaming Tweaks
System Tweaks
Basic Overclocking
(BETA) Programs & Settings
Why Windows 10 over 7 or 8.1?
Windows 10 Pro 64bit is actually your best option now,
It has better boot times than 7 & 8.1
And better Gaming performance, though some of it is fractional
More hardware is supported in general
And DX12 is supported thru it – which we will start seeing more and more games using.

Windows 10 Pro
Pro Gives you a few advantages but not really any performance gains over Home. I recommend Pro but if you need to save a couple of bucks or pounds or Euros then you can grab Windows 10 Home.
I think you can still grab Windows 10 Pro Licences from Kinguin.net for $30-35. And as far as I am aware they are legit.
General Gaming Tweaks
Update Your Drivers!
The Most obvious and necessary make sure you have the latest drivers installed for you system & devices especially your graphics card. Just grab your latest drivers for your ATI or Nvidia card, I recommend 3dGuru to get them from they always have the latest drivers and a full description of what they do.
3dGuru host & describe all of the latest drivers some of which don’t appear on the Nvidia / AMD Sites:
System Gaming Responsiveness
This section covers Registry Tweaks that can affect Gaming Performance in most situations:
You’ll need to jump into the Windows Registry for some of this, it’s not complicated tho
  • Press Windows Key and R
  • Type Regedit & then enter
I’ll explain the various things we can change and why.
Some games that uses “Multimedia Class Scheduler” service (MMCSS) can only utilize up to 80% of the CPU. The “Multimedia Class Scheduler” service (MMCSS) ensures prioritized access to CPU resources, without denying CPU resources to lower-priority background applications.
  • To set this tweak, run regedit and find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile.
  • Create a new DWORD and name it to “SystemResponsiveness” set its hexadecimal value to 00000000 for pure gaming/streaming.
Also here you can also change the priority of Games;
  • Find  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\Tasks\Games
  • Change the following registry values:
  • “GPU Priority” change its value to 8
  • “Priority” set to 6
  • “Scheduling Category” set to “High”
Power Options
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options
It’s worth changing your Power Options to High Performance
Disable Mouse Acceleration
I Honestly Can’t believe the amount of people that still have this on.
Mouse acceleration needs to be turned off for gaming otherwise you are aiming.
  • Again in Control Panel
  • Mouse
  • Pointer Options
  • Untick Enhance Pointer Precision (this is mouse acceleration)
  • Also try adjusting the Pointer Speed slider here till you are happy
What DPI & Sensitivity should you select?
With some mice you will have software to set you dpi,
so in most games I recommend 400-1600 if in doubt try 800 even if your mouse have 20 billion DPI.
Some people will set their DPI far too high, you want to adjust the sensitivity via the mouse options and in game
Unpark Your Core & Threads
There is a great freeware program that stops threads from “parking” which is basically a power saving mode & makes sure they are ready to use constantly.
The effect of this is better performance in games & quicker response in general.
  • Download The CPU Unparking Utility
  • Run The EXE as an Administrator
  • Change The Slider to 100%
  • Apply & Close
NVIDIA Graphics Settings, if you have an NVIDIA Card
  • Go into the NVIDIA Control Panel
  • Manage 3D Settings
  • Set Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration – Single display performance mode (If you have issues with low frame rates on your other monitors OR you are using multiple monitors to game with then change this to Multi)
  • Preferred refresh rate – Highest available
  • [OPTIONAL] Turn Off Shader Cache, some people experience gains with it off, some people lose performance.
  • Leave Pre-Rendered Frames on AUTO
  • Texture Filtering Quality – Performance
Online Gaming Tweaks
This section covers Registry Tweaks that affect Online Gaming Performance, Ping, Latency and all that Jazz, IF you aren’t playing online then you can skip this stuff you can set it manually or use TCP Optimizer 4:
You’ll need to jump into the Windows Registry for this, it’s not complicated tho
Press Windows Key and R
Type Regedit & then enter
I’ll explain the various things we can change and why.
Disable Nagle’s Algorithm
This combines several small packets into a single, larger packet for more “efficient” transmissions. Tho for Gaming Disabling “nagling” can help reduce latency/ping in some games. Nagle’s algorithm is enabled in Windows by default.
To Disable this (for faster performance) go to the value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{NIC-id}
For the {NIC-id}, look for the one with your IP address listed.
Under this {NIC-id} key, create the following DWORD value:
  • TcpAckFrequency and set it to 1
  • TCPNoDelay and set it also to 1
  • TcpDelAckTicks and set it to 0

If you don’t know your IP, you can
  • Press Windows Key + R
  • Type CMD then Enter
  • Type IPCONFIG then Enter
  • Your LOCAL IP should be displayed
Disable Network Throttling
Windows likes to Throttle your Packets sometime so it’s worth disabling this setting for better Performance.
  • Again in Regedit now find:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile.
  • In SystemProfile, create a DWORD value and name it to “NetworkThrottlingIndex”
  • Set it’s Hexadecimal value to ffffffff for gaming and max throughput.
Networking Improvements
The Star Citizen mini-PU servers are mostly Server bound when it comes to performance, hence why you sometimes only get 20fps but also the lack of regional servers can also lead to some Latency, poor Pings & Round Trip Times. Setting and Tweaking your Network Settings can help a lot.
TCP Optimizer 4
This program allows you to go through each of the important settings to Tweak your Rig & Network Adapter for Online Gaming & doesn’t require you to go thru the Registry.
  • Download the Program Here
  • Right Click TCPOptimizer & Run as Admin
  • Set Your Connection Speed & The Rest of The Options as Shown
You can do a bit of Research & maybe get better results too
  • Each of the Settings has a tooltip
  • You can read the full explanation and Program Manual Here
  • In The General Settings some of the settings require situational subjective optimization based on your needs, tho Optimal should still give you an improvement.
  • If You are Having Issues you can always set it to Optimal OR Windows Default
Disable Windows Update Delivery Optimization
Windows Updates  has a setting where it can munch your bandwidth by sending Windows updates to other PCs on the net. It’s worth turning this off as it can affect your gameplay and also eat into any data allowance you might have.
To turn this feature OFF, follow these given steps:
  • Go to Settings in the Start menu
  • Search for Update & Security
  • Under Windows Update, open Advanced Options
  • Click Choose How Updates are Installed, select Choose how updates are delivered
  • Disable the toggle under Updated from More than One Place
Disable OneDrive
If you don’t use OneDrive then disable it, it eats up your bandwidth. The OneDrive app of Windows 10 uploads your new files to the cloud internet server so you can access them anywhere.
To disable OneDrive:
Right click on the OneDrive app which is located on your taskbar and click exit.
System Tweaks
Disable Hibernate
Hibernate mode is set up by default to allow the hard drive disk to load the programs faster instead of booting the system, but it is unnecessary for an SSD system drives.
  • To do this, simply open your CMD command
    Search for CMD in the start menu search bar
  • Right click CMD and Run as Admin & Type,
  • powercfg -h off
  • Press Enter
Setting your Page File
  • Press Windows Key
  • Click In the Search Box
  • Search for “Control” then Click on it,
  • Click System
  • Click Advanced System Settings
  • Click the Advanced Tab
  • Under Performance, Click Settings
  • Under the Advanced tab Click Change
  • Uncheck Auto manage
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT I RECOMMEND SETTING THIS TO AN SSD DRIVE
  • Set one of your Drives (preferably an SSD) to SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE
  • Set
  • All other Drives should be set to None (unless if the pagefile you set wasn’t on your OS drive & you want to leave 300mb on your main boot drive for “crash info & recovery”)
If you have loads of Ram some people recommend having no pagefile, though some applications require a page file to operate optimally.

I recommend having a Page File on a separate drive or secondary drive.
I use an SSHD that I also use for storage. And let the system workout how much it needs. After much testing I found that I get FRACTIONAL improvements consistently with a 4GB Pagefile on a 2nd drive & NO page file on my main or gaming drives.

Some people say if you have 16GB+ ram you should entirely disable pagefiles.
Some programs & games however are designed to operate with a Pagefile & for me it is literally faster to have one. But all gains seem to be pretty negligible.
Visual Effects and Performance
I recommend disabling some of the Visual effects in Windows, it makes Windows faster and a bit more responsive and gives a bit more performance, it’s also in:
  • Control Panel
  • System
  • Advanced System Settings
  • Performance Options
  • Visual Effects
Keep These 3 enabled
  • Show thumbnails instead of icons
  • Show window contents while dragging
  • Smooth edges of screen fonts
HDD, SSD & Service Optimizations
You’ll want to Defrag your HDDs every so often BUT not your SSDs
It will damage them if you force defrag them, instead you want to TRIM them.
Also I recommend Turning off Indexing on SSDs.
  • Press Windows Key + E
  • Click on your SSD and right click on it.
  • Click properties then uncheck “Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties“
  • Click apply then click OK
Disable Restrictive Services
  • Press Windows Key + R
  • Type services.msc
  • Look for the Service you want to disable and right click on it
  • Click properties then click Startup type
  • Select Disabled, click OK
  • Click the folder icon on your taskbar.
Turn off The Services Listed Below (Unless specifically know you use these), they are a mixture of useless & optimization settings:
  • Windows Search (This will disable Windows Search TOO, keep it if you use it)
  • All Xbox Services
  • All Hyper-V services
  • Microsoft SMS router service
  • Diagnostics tracking service
  • Fax service
  • dmwappushsvc
  • All Sensor Services
Here is an extended list of Services That in most cases you can disable,
I have disabled all of these on my Windows 10 Pro but it’s at your own risk:
AllJoyn Router Service
Application Layer Gateway Service
Bluetooth Support Service
BranchCache
Certificate Propagation
Client for NFS
Distributed Link Tracking Client
dmwappushsvc
Downloaded Maps Manager
Enterprise App Management Service

Data Mining & Bloatware Removal
There are 2 different ways I recommend to do this, but using the More Automated Newer way is probably better, I’ll leave the Manual way here too.
Spybot Anti-Beacon
This program turns off and stops a load of data mining and Microsoft / Other Services it’s basically designed to block and stop the various tracking (telemetry) issues present in Windows 10.
NOTE – If you are using Skype then after you have run this
You’ll need to unblock some hosts can find your hosts-file here:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Just open it with Editor and see if you find any lines containing “skype”, “hotmail” or “messenger.live”. Save as a .file then delete the extension and place in the folder.
Turn off Other Tracking , Data-mining, increase Privacy & Performance
  • Right Click the Notification Box in the Bottom Right
  • Open Action Centre
  • All Settings
  • System
  • In Notifications & Actions I turn all the sliders off
  • Apps & Features – There is loads of bloatware
  • Sway, Phone, Get Skype, Maps
  • I delete everything that I am obviously not going to use.
  • If in doubt DON’T DELETE
  • Offline Maps – Turn Everything Off Here
Back to Settings
  • Privacy
  • Go Thru EVERY tab and turn the sliders off unless you have a reason to have them on.
  • In Feedback & Diagnostics
  • Change Windows Feedback to Never
  • If you have the option under Send your device data to Microsoft Select Never OR Basic
Back to Settings
  • Update & Security
  • I Turn off Everything in Windows Defender, But you may need some form of Virus and Online protection
  • Windows Update
  • Click Advanced Options
  • Choose How Updates are delivered
  • Set to Off
Remove Pre-Installed Apps (More Removals)
Windows 10 comes with pre-installed apps or “bloatware” and basically if you don’t use them DELETE / Remove them.
  • Control Panel\All Control Panel Items
  • Programs and Features
  • Uninstall anything that you know you don’t need
Also you can to save some more space by removing the pre-installed apps that came with Windows 10 if you aren’t going to use those apps at all.
  • Press the windows key
  • Search for Powershell
  • Right Click Run as Admin
Enter the following commands to remove one or more apps of your choice:
(I keep calculator BUT get rid of everything else)
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *BingFinance* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *BingNews* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *BingSports* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *BingWeather* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *Getstarted* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *MicrosoftOfficeHub* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *MicrosoftSolitaireCollection* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *Office.OneNote* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *People* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *SkypeApp* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *Windows.Photos* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsAlarms* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsCalculator* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsCamera* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsMaps* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsPhone* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *WindowsSoundRecorder* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *XboxApp* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *ZuneMusic* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *ZuneVideo* | Remove-AppxPackage”
powershell “Get-AppxPackage *3DBuilder* | Remove-AppxPackage”

The More Automated Way is using W10Privacy
Still getting my head around this simple Windows 10 program, it combines loads of other Privacy Tweaks as well as loads of things to disable in Windows for a better experience.
  • Download it from Here
  • Run the EXE in it’s own folder by right clicking and “Run as Admin”
  • Disable / Tweak anything you want
  • Then Press Set Changed Settings, wait then restart
I tick pretty much everything except:
  • Show Hidden and Cache Files
  • Items / Services I know I use
  • Some of the Settings in Tweaks Explorer
  • Just have a quick read of the tooltip of each setting before you tick it
NOTE – If you are using Skype then after you have run this
You’ll need to unblock some hosts can find your hosts-file here:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Just open it with Editor and see if you find any lines containing “skype”, “hotmail” or “messenger.live”. If you have issues saving then, Save as a .file then delete the extension and place in the folder.
Graphics Card Overclocking
This is much safer and easier than CPU Overclocking
As with CPUs it’s still worth googling your card and the word overclock to see what settings are recommended and achievable.
The Latest GTX 1060, 1070 & 1080 Cards | Precision XOC
For Nvidia Cards Prior to the GTX 1060, 1070 & 1080 Series | Precision
For AMD & ATI Cards Use | AMDTrixx
Overclock your Monitor too you can use those tools to up your pixel clock or hz rate on your monitor, again it’s worth googling your monitor and seeing what others have achieved. You can also just Set a Custom Resolution now in the latest Nvidia Drivers.
I have my AOC 144hz Monitor @ 171hz without any issues.
BUT do this as WITH ALL THE OTHER OVERCLOCKING AT YOUR OWN RISK
And make sure you always Test your Overclocks
Test your overclocks to make sure your system is stable I run a series of 3d Mark Tests
And I also recommend 3d Mark Firestrike for general benchmarking too.
The Basic Version is FREE too!
Also http://www.cpuid.com have loads of great Monitoring Software for your Temps & Voltages.
I can recommend HWMonitor for pretty much everything, again the Freeware version is great.
Other Programs & Settings (BETA)
So these are programs, tweaks and tools that I am trying out and may be AMAZING, Useless OR Damaging, I don’t know I don’t know enough about them.
Process Lasso – http://bitsum.com
This is a Program that you can use to set process and system priorities to tasks & processes as well as a whole world of other features. I am messing around with the features at the moment & it seems good but I am yet to make up my mind.
Prio Process Priority Saver – http://www.prnwatch.com/prio/
Does a similar more slimline job that Lasso does, saving the Process Priorities so you don’t have to keep setting them.
The CMark Win 10 “Fix” – donewmouseaccel.blogspot.co.uk
This is a registry fix that removes anything that sounds like it might be acceleration related in regards. I haven’t seen any real change (after disabling Mouse Acceleration) It might be magic thinking but every frame is a gain… that doesn’t work when talking about mice does it?

Custom User.cfg Guide 3.0

Putting the ALPHA 3.0 changes here above the rest of the Guide, I have not tested all of the settings for Alpha 3.0 yet, I expect only limited amount now work.
Recommended 3.0 ALPHA USER.cfg – Motion Blur, V-Sync & Shows FPS Info
You can Support These Guides with the Links Below:
NEW SETTINGS ADDED FOR ALPHA 3.0
; This Setting shows your FPS and Frame Latency ingame
r_DisplayInfo = 3
EXPERIMENTAL | This forces the GPU render thread to wait for the main thread to finish state updates from the network before starting to render the next frame. Might give you a smoother experience and higher frame rates at the expense of hit reg & network performance, OR it could further degrade performance.
r_enable_full_gpu_sync = 0
Important Star Citizen Specific Guides & Info
Performance & Custom USER.cfg Guide – Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 LIVE
LESS IS MORE with the current USER.cfg stuff, ONLY use settings that you understand what they do OR Use the Recommended Pre-Mades. This guide is intended to allow you to Speed up loading of Star Citizen, create your own USER.cfg & get a better experience.
IMPORTANT – SOMETIMES ERRORS IN START CITIZEN CAN OCCUR WITH THESE CHANGES, PLEASE KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN POSTING TO THE ISSUE COUNCIL, YOU SHOULD TRY AND REPEAT THE ERROR FIRST WITHOUT THE USER.cfg
PLEASE NOTE
  • Display, Monitor & Boarderless Settings still work as intended, others my not work in 3.0.
  • PTU Builds with USER.cfgs seem pretty unstable with certain Settings, also with the LIVE and especially PTU builds USER.cfgs may skew bug reports, so keep that in mind.
  • For Star Citizen Fixes, Resources & Other Improvements Go Here, I can recommend DSR/VSR for people who want Super Quality Settings but don’t have 1440p / 4k Monitors.
  • After a Patch Xenthor’s Reshade (Shader Packs in General) & USER.cfg remain, I recommend moving or deleting and re-installing new supported versions.
In the case of the 3.X PTU & LIVE, User.cfgs work BUT:
  • If you’re experiencing a crash or bugs delete any .cfg files that are in your LIVE folder.
  • If you add settings via a custom user.cfg, return them with caution until you are certain none of them are affecting performance.
  • We are going to look how to create a USER.cfg again and fully customizing your own.
  • It’s worth doing so you are getting the optimal experience from Star Citizen.
  • So I’ve got pre-made Ultra Quality as well as Performance .cfg which you can grab below or use as a foundation.
But it’s worth spending a little bit of time and writing your own.
Creating a USER.cfg
When you write a USER.cfg Basically need to Save a txt document with the name USER.cfg into
  • INSTALL FOLDER\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\LIVE
If user.cfg stops working, rename it to User.cfg. If that doesn’t work, rename it to USER.cfg
Anything you then write or type in their will attempted to be set on game launch
Typing ; before a line will mean that line is ignored, this can be used to describe or put down notes during testing. So everything below You could copy and paste into your USER.cfg and then go down the list and set correctly.
YOU CAN USE ANY OF THESE AS LIVE CONSOLE COMMANDS IN GAME;
  • ` will bring up the Console
  • REMOVE = from any command you put into the console so r_DisplayInfo = 3 would become r_DisplayInfo 3
USER.cfg Settings & Commands
; —————————————————————————————————————————————
; Custom USER.cfg – This is a command in needed to Unlock the Console to accept Commands
Con_Restricted = 0
; This Setting reduces some of the aggressive Bloom Effects that 2.5 has, recommended set to 0 for less blinding lights.
r_OpticsBloom = 0
; This Setting basically sets the basis for your config (1-4) 1 is Low but best performance & 4 is Very High Graphics but most intensive. It sets loads of settings & it’s important it’s at the top of the .cfg so that anything below it overwrites parts of it, 3 gives great quality and performance.
sys_spec = 4
; Remove Maxfps to have a less stable max framerate (but it will be at it’s highest), I suggest setting at an achievable level, slower PCs go for 30, Fast PCs set at your monitors Refresh rate. If unsure delete the line it.
sys_maxfps = 60
; If you get screen tearing set VSync to 1 (See Below)
r_VSync = 0
; Setting Texture Sizes, Change The r_TexturesStreamPoolSize based on you Graphics Card Memory 256 for 2GB or Less, 512 for upto 3GB, 1024 for upto 4GB, 2048 for upto 6Gb. If you have over 6GB you can run 4096.
r_TexturesStreamPoolSize = 1024
; Set e_ShadowsPoolSize to half of TexturesStreamPoolSize is a good value.
e_ShadowsPoolSize = 512
; This setting is how much texture love is given to shadows, Recommend set to 128 for the most performance 512 is default and you can setup to 4096 for pretty shadows.
e_ShadowsMaxTexRes = 128
; This is again some love to shadows (0.1 – 100) 0.1 will give you best performance while 100 will give you the best shadow quality, I can’t really notice the improvement above 40.
e_ShadowsReScale = 40
; This Setting @ 1 reduces a tiny amount of realism on shadows, almost unnoticeable for some performance increase, but if you want the best looking shadows Change to 0. Can cause odd shadow bugs at 1 sometimes. AT THE MOMENT I RECOMMEND SETTING THIS TO 0!
e_GsmCache = 0
; AntiAliasing – (0 – 3) Where 0 is NO AA & 2 is More AA than 1, it’s quite resource hungry and you should be using it if you are want jagged lines to be smoothed out. At Higher Resolutions like over 1440p AA becomes less needed as the higher res smooths the lines out naturally, setting over 2 can cause issues and ghosting. 3 is SMAA but can cause Flickering. At 0 & 2 there is currently a bug that causes intense brightness , I suggest setting at 1 or Deleting.
r_AntialiasingMode = 1
; Helps with anti-aliasing if you have a AA mode set then I’d add this too. Otherwise deleter_DeferredShadingFilterGBuffer = 1
; Anistropy makes textures look better at angles and distances, (0 – 16) 0 is the best for performance & 16 is the best for Quality. It doesn’t use too much processing power so I always have it at 16.
r_TexMaxAnisotropy = 16
r_TexMinAnisotropy = 16
; Sharpening – This makes lines look crisp and sharpened / but conversely can make lines look more jagged. I recommend setting this between 0.6-1 if you are running in 1440p or higher or if you like the way it looks. 0 is none and 1 is max & Default is 0.25 (I prefer 0.4 personally)
r_Sharpening = 0.4
; This just makes sure that Mouse Smoothing & Acceleration is turned OFF!
i_Mouse_Accel = 0.0
i_Mouse_Smooth = 0.0
; These are Blur & annoying Visual Settings – Turned Off Here but they are normally Set to 1 by Default. I really dislike Blur, Bloom, HeadBob and colour bleeds in game so I set them all to 0.
r_MotionBlur = 0
r_DepthOfField = 0
r_ShadowBlur = 0
g_radialBlur = 0
r_HDRBrightLevel = 0
r_HDRBloomRatio = 0
hud_bobHud = 0
r_ChromaticAberration = 0
; SSDO is a post process that makes stuff look prettier and more realistic, SSDO is better than SSAO so I make sure SSAO is off. But SSDO can be set to 0 for Performance and up to 2 for Quality, leave SSAO at 0 unless you have a reason.
r_ssdo = 2
r_ssao = 0
; This when it works in the Cry Engine adds Better Visual Quality to certain objects but is quite hungry. Turn to 0 for more Performance, can cause slight glitches in some situations.
r_SilhouettePOM = 1
; FOV Settings – FOVs can be set from 25 to 160, CL_FOV is your main FOV. Lower FOVs will reduce the amount your can see on screen, but can give greater performance. Also VR / Multi-monitor setups will want to find an FOV that works for them. VR wise I would suggest 105 – 120. Multi-Monitor I am working on the figures now but I would expect 100 – 160. (FOV SETTINGS SEEM TO BE LOCKED CURRENTLY)
CL_fov = 80
; If you want to run Windowed Full Screen Mode then set this to 1
r_FullscreenWindow = 0
; Sets the Resolution of the Screen, Set to your needs. If you set FullscreenWindow to 1 and this to the native monitor resolution you effectively have Boarderless Windowed Mode.
r_width = 1920
r_height = 1080
; Pretty Reflections (SSR) Set 0 – 3, 0 being off & 3 being High Quality
r_SSReflections = 0
; Can give better color graduation in post-processing, 0 may give a few extra frames but picture may look “washed out” 1 is on.
r_ColorGrading = 1
EXPERIMENTAL SETTINGS
(So everthing he should work but it’s very specific to certain situations & requires fiddling with)
; Tessellation changes the number of polygons used to render an object, Highest Quality is 1 and Lowest is 20
; (Tessellation is spelled incorrectly on purpose, if the Tesselation Settings don’t work for you TRY changing it to Tessellation for all of the following).
r_TesselationTriangleSize = 10
; Allow Tessellation to be pre rendered on the GPU : 1 = On, 2= Off , If you have a powerful GPU like a 1080 OR an SLI Setup you can set this to 1
r_TesselationPreTesselateOnGPU = 1
; Hardware tesselation 0 = off 1 = on, on Newer Systems and GPUs you can set this to 1 of better Quality and Performance.
e_Tesselation = 1
;  Controls the overall Level of Detail (LOD) for the game world. The value assigned to this command determines the distance beyond which objects start to lose detail. The higher you raise this value, the more detailed distance objects will be, at the cost of performance. Default Value: 4 (Low), 6 (Medium) 20 (High), 40 (Very High)
e_LodRatio = 40
; Processor Threads & Multi-GPU Advanced Settings
; —————————————————————————————————————————————
; These are more “expert” settings for Multi-Threaded CPUs, Multi-GPUs and High End Users.
; If you have a Multi-Threaded CPU Set this to 1, if you don’t or you want to turn Multi Threads off Set to 0. *Delete if not appropriate
r_MultiThreaded = 1
; Multi GPU Settings – These are for fiddling with you GPUs, don’t include if you don’t need them for some reason! *Delete if not appropriate; If you want to turn ON the ability to try and use multiple GPU then set to 1, there are load of bugs and issues with this that can occur.
r_MultiGPU = 0

; Sets what GPU calculates the physics, Recommended to set to 1 (or whatever card you want to have as a dedicated physics card) if you have 2 or more Cards. *Delete if not appropriate
sys_physics_GPU = 0
; —————————————————————————————————————————————
; Adding The Lines of Code below can fix and/or cause a lot of crashes. They all effect your CPU usage & threads. If you are not having crashes or stability issues I would not include them in your USER.cfg as they can also cause a lot of issues too, include some of them if you have reason to. These are NOT PTU friendly.
; Enables navigation information updates on a separate thread 0 – off & 1 – on
ai_NavigationSystemMT = 1
; Enable particle threading
e_ParticlesThread = 1
; Use a thread to perform sub-objects meshes merging
e_StatObjMergeUseThread = 1
; Enables threaded rendering while loading
gfx_loadtimethread = 1
; The number of internal physics threads
p_num_threads = 1
; Enable the JobSystem. 0: The Jobsystem is disabled, each job is executed in its invoking thread. 1: The JobSystem is enabled, each job is invoked in one of the worker threads.
sys_job_system_enable = 0
; The Following Options Choose which Thread to run processes on, you can experiment & I would only use them to fix crashes / performance if you know what you are doing.
; Specifies the physical CPU index main will run on
sys_main_CPU = 0
; Specifies the physical CPU index physics will run on. A Stable Settings is half the Physical Cores of your Processor. On my i7 4790k I change this to 2.
sys_physics_CPU = 2
; Specifies the physical CPU file IO thread run on. A Stable Settings is the Number of Physical Cores of your Processor. On my i7 4790k I change this to 4.
sys_streaming_CPU = 4
; Multi-Monitors – Advanced Settings for Multi-Monitor Setups
; The Example Uses 3x screens for a total of 6400×1080 resolution, you need to set the Height & Width to your needs.
r_FullscreenWindow = 1
r_Fullscreen = 0
; Set to you required Resolution Height
r_Height = 1080
; Set Width to the Entire Combined Width of your Monitors
r_Width = 6400
; Regarding FOV setting, use this calculator to give you the number for your resolution http://www.rjdown.co.uk/projects/bfbc2/fovcalculator.php

Star Citizen Performance Guide 3.0

Updated 28th December| Star Citizen 3.0 LIVE – This Article will be updated from patch to patch with the latest setup & optimization fixes, guides and signposting. Today I am going to show you various Tweaks to Star Citizen that you can use to improve performance on slower systems or make SC look better on higher systems OR a mixture of the two as well as other improvements for the game.
You can Support These Guides with the Links Below:
Other Important Guides for Performance, Improvements & Fixes
Here are links to the Other Important Guides you will need:
THE GAME IS GOING TO CRASH, 3.0 IS STILL AN ALPHA!
Delete your USER Folder – This is a common fix for a lot of issues it’s in INSTALL FOLDER\StarCitizen\LIVE
Grab The Latest Graphics Card Drivers
AMD Radeon Adrenaline Drivers | 18.1.1 Alpha
Nvidia Geforce Drivers | 390.65
Setting your Page File
Star Citizen 3.0 loves page files.
I ALSO RECOMMEND CLOSING ALL BACKGROUND APPS!
  • Press Windows Key
  • Click In the Search Box
  • Search for “Control” then Click on it,
  • Click System
  • Click Advanced System Settings
  • Click the Advanced Tab
  • Under Performance, Click Settings
  • Under the Advanced tab Click Change…
  • Uncheck Auto manage
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT I RECOMMEND SETTING THIS TO AN SSD DRIVE
  • Set one of your Drives (preferably an SSD) to SYSTEM MANAGED SIZE
  • Set
  • All other Drives should be set to None (unless if the pagefile you set wasn’t on your OS drive & you want to leave 300mb on your main boot drive for “crash info & recovery”)
If you have loads of Ram some people recommend having no pagefile, though some applications require a page file to operate optimally.

Some people say if you have 16GB+ ram you should entirely disable pagefiles.
Some programs & games however are designed to operate with a Pagefile & for me it is literally faster to have one. But all gains seem to be pretty negligible.
Close The Launcher
The Star Citizen Launcher can be resource hungry, after the game is launched ensure it’s closed.
In fact you can create a shortcut to run the game from Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Public\Bin64 & Run the StarCitizen.exe (I suggest you run it as an administrator)
The Game doesn’t require the launcher to run as long as you have logged in once (it creates a login.json file) , IT DOES however need to be updated from time to time, so if you you are running straight from the .exe & you can’t get on try running the launcher, there might be an update.
Make Star Citizen Run Faster
Unpark Your Core & Threads
There is a great freeware program that stops threads from “parking” which is basically a power saving mode & makes sure they are ready to use constantly.
The effect of this is better performance in games & quicker response in general.
  • Download The CPU Unparking Utility
  • Run The EXE as an Administrator
  • Change The Slider to 100%
  • Apply & Close
Making Star Citizen Look Better – SweetFX & Reshade
What is it?
SweetFX is a collection of post-processing shader effects for your games. Add SMAA anti-aliasing, sharpening, tweak the color, gamma, exposure and more. Xenthor’s Reshade is a great Star Citizen Pre-set for it that improves the way Star Citizen looks especially with Lighting, Shadows and General Visual Quality. There are 2 Shader Packs that I recommend you can choose between
Xenthor’s Reshade – My preferred Shader Pack, adds more defination and details to lighting and textures without over saturating color.

How to install
PLEASE NOTE
  • SweetFX can cause issues with MSI Afterburner & EVGA Precision.
  • After a Patch SweetFX & USER.cfg remain, I recommend moving or deleting and re-installing new supported versions.
DSR / VSR – Super Resolutions
What is it?
This is the process of downscaling higher resolutions to lower ones.
For example I use it to Render in 1440p or 4k then downscale it to 1080p
This gives some quality benefits in the forms of reducing Aliasing, detail is clearer, effects and shadows better, and overall image quality far superior.
This is an extremely resource intensive feature but for higher end machines or even for mid range machines wanting to downscale from 1440p you can get some amazing results.
Installing – Make sure you have the Latest Drivers for your Graphics Card Then:
AMD GFX VSR Settings – Virtual Super Res
Enable Virtual Super Resolution – Check On Apply
Nvidia DSR Settings (Dynamic Super Res)
DSR Factors – For 1080p Native – Choose 1.75x for 1440p & 4x for 4k
DSR – Smoothness (this reduces aliasing that occurs but you want to go for the lowest % you can for the best image quality without make images too jagged) You’ll want to adjust smoothness to your preference – For 1440p I go for around 17% but for 4k only 10%.

Star Citizen Patch Notes: Patch 3.0

Star Citizen Patch Notes: Patch 3.0

Star Citizen Alpha Patch 3.0.0 is now available! Alpha 3.0.0 is our largest content release to date featuring numerous tech, core system updates, and new features. Players will have access to planetary surfaces for the first time on four moons (Yela, Daymar, and Cellin) along with an asteroid (Delamar). These new surfaces are expansive, with over 3 million square kilometers dotted with surface outposts and derelict ships. Additionally, we have added four new ships, our first dedicated surface vehicle (Ursa Explorer), the foundation of our revamped mission system with new missions, a completely new launcher and patcher system, and so much more!

Your launcher should should show “3.0.0-695052” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Public client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Roberts Space Industries\StarCitizen\LIVE.

Important:

  • Many new features are present as a first implementation and still have numerous adjustments and tweaks to be made to bring them to full design specifications.
  • Many optimizations are still incoming and performance isn’t up to our standard as is.
  • With so many new systems coming online, there are likely to be numerous bugs left to smash and balance changes to hammer out.

Key Game-play How Tos:

Ship Start Up: Approach the entry point of your ship, then press and hold “F” to activate the interaction system. Select from the various inner thought prompts using the cursor or mouse wheel to move between them. Once inside your ship, again press and hold “F” and select the “Flight Ready” prompt to run through complete ship start up. Alternatively, there are hotkeys available for quick start-up which you can find under “Advanced Controls Customization”

Landing: Landing now takes place through an Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. When close to a landing location, request a landing by navigating to your “Comms” menu on the MobiGlas (note: this is incorrectly displayed as a ship icon) and pushing the hail button (wifi symbol). Wait a moment, and ATC should assign you a landing location. Note, you may need to request take off to leave Levski (trigger opening of bay doors).

Quantum Travel: To quantum travel to a destination, open your MobiGlas (F1) and select the Starmap App (diamond shaped symbol). From there, use the mouse to select a destination. Whether or not an object can be selected for QT is determined by gravitational values (The larger the object the further away you can detect it, large objects with small objects in orbit drown out their detection capabilities at long ranges). Meaning you will not be able to travel from point A to B at all times, but instead may need to move into orbit of a larger body to detect destinations also in orbit. For example, to get to a station orbiting a moon that orbits a planet, the route is Planet>Moon>Station. Once you have a destination selected you can “set destination” on your MobiGlas to bring up a quantum travel target. As before, align with the QT target and press “B” to travel.

Changes to Default Keybindings: Controls now default to a “basic” mapping that only includes core functions and leaves many things unbound. The “basic” mapping is meant to be simplified controls for beginners. Players can then go through keybinds and bind how they wish or import an “advanced” binding from among several presets. Experienced players will most likely want to do one of those two things to gain full functionality. Advanced profiles can be found under Keybindings→Advanced Controls Customization→Control Profiles.

Afterburner: There is now a single afterburner with the ability to achieve higher top velocity under certain conditions, giving us AB SCM and AB Cruise with the only distinction being two different speeds. You can only enter AB Cruise if your flight path is a straight, forward line. Otherwise you’re limited to AB SCM, i.e. while maneuvering/strafing. Once in AB Cruise you can release the afterburner key and go into an AB idle mode to maintain your current speed. Throttle setting and y-axis strafe level allows incremental speeds, but you will decelerate if you change your vector. If you continue to hold AB and maneuver, you drop to AB SCM speed until you return to straight-line flight. AB Idle holds your current velocity as long as you’re not maneuvering and decoupled rotation is allowed while in AB idle.

Major Known Issues:

  • Persistent player location respawn is currently only working if the player returns to the same instance. This is not the intended final functionality.
  • The combat visor is an early, spartan prototype that is meant to give players core functionality. There’s still work remaining.

New Features

General Content

Breathing, Stamina & Heart Rate

  • Oxygen Supply: Many areas, such as space or the moons of Crusader, do not have breathable atmospheres and are dangerous for characters unless they’re wearing a pressure suit. Most pressure suits are equipped standard with an oxygen tank. As you breathe, you will slowly consume the oxygen inside your tank. Your oxygen tank will automatically begin to refill once you are inside an area, station, ship or outpost with a breathable atmosphere. If your oxygen supply runs out, your pressure suit contains a small buffer of oxygen to provide you with a short amount of time to try to find an oxygen supply. If your suit is not sealed or you’re not wearing a helmet, you will not have this buffer. If you do not have any oxygen available, you will asphyxiate and quickly pass out.
  • Stamina: As you exert more effort by running, jumping, etc., your muscles work harder and begin to consume more oxygen. To keep up with this higher demand, your heart rate and breathing increase to provide your muscles with a steady supply of oxygen. Wearing heavier armor will increase how much effort it takes to do actions and will tire you out sooner. The more you exert yourself, the harder you breathe and the faster your oxygen supply will be depleted.
  • Heart Rate Monitor: The heart rate monitor on your helmet’s HUD and in your MobiGlas functions as an exertion/stamina meter. As a character exerts themselves, their heart rate increases. If a character exerts themselves too much, they will enter a hyperventilated state. This will restrict the actions that you can perform, and things like running, sprinting or vaulting will be blocked until you exit the Hyperventilated state. Heart rate and breathing can also effect recoil handling and aim. As your heart rate increases the character’s aim will begin to sway, ranging from a minor wobble to wild drifting. Once levels reach certain critical thresholds your vision will also begin to be effected, slowly dimming till it goes completely black. Once your heart rate returns to normal, so will your vision and movement.

Wound System

  • Injury is now taken into account for status effects to a small degree including movement penalties for limb damage.

Interaction System

  • Interaction Mode: Holding down the [F] key will activate Interaction Mode – a contextual cursor will appear in the center of the screen, interaction points will highlighted, even from a distance. The parallax cursor movement allows selection of anything on screen with little head movement, while retaining full input control. Movement is limited to walking speed while in Interaction Mode. Holding the right mouse button enters into ‘focus’; the camera rotates and zooms in on the cursor location, putting it in the center of the screen. From here, the cursor behaves normally. Releasing right click returns to standard view. Left click confirms the selection, and the associated action begins. Releasing [F] will always immediately return to natural gameplay.
  • Inner Thought Prompt: When near enough to interact, the inner thought prompt will softly appear on the player screen, tilting towards the location of the interaction to help provide context to the inner thought text. The text will inform you of the action that will be performed upon interaction.Moving away, looking away, or having line of sight to the interaction point blocked will remove the inner thought prompt. The inner thought text will display on screen relative to the object of interaction, but will stay at a fixed size so it’s guaranteed readable. The ellipse below the text indicates that secondary options are available, and they can be accessed with the cursor or mouse wheel.

Hint System

  • Added the foundation of a new “hint system” which will allow players to learn about how to play the game whilst playing it and reduce the burden of having to consult an off-line resource.

Party Launch System

  • Added new command /partylaunch. If the party leader enters /partylaunch into the chat window in game, this will send a notification to each party member when the leader enters an instance that they can either accept or ignore. If accepted they will be put into Matchmaking system to join the leader. If the server doesn’t have enough space for the full party, all players in the party will be put back into Matchmaking to find another server. If not in a server, whenever the party leader launches into a new server a partylaunch will automatically be generated for everyone.

Universe

Planetary Surfaces

  • We have implemented the first fully modeled, explorable planetary surfaces. These include three moons; Yela, Daymar, and Celin, as well as the mining planetoid Delamar. Each planetary body has unique atmospheric composition, pressure, and gravity as well as a variety of surface outposts and derelict ships to explore, many tied to our new missions system.

Planetary Motion

  • Planetary bodies now have rotational motion complete with dynamic day/night cycles.

Surface Outposts

  • Planetary surfaces are dotted with surface outposts representing a variety organizations and functions. Each outpost is unique and has its own power system and oxygen supply, many with usable Kiosks and landing pads with associated ASOP terminals.

Persistence

  • Your character and ship’s persistence state is now being updated every few minutes and on logout. After death, you will respawn in the station you last visited. Visiting is determined by proximity. Additionally, players can now logout using ship beds. Entering a ship bed will present the player with a “logout” option that if used will persist the ship and player’s location. Upon return, the player will wake in their ship bed with their ship in the location of logout.

Air Traffic Control (ATC)

  • Landing and take off at larger public facilities is now controlled by Air Traffic Control (ATC). The ATC acts as the connection between you and the landing tower using the MFD comms function in every ship. When attempting to land, you will open a communication channel to the tower and ask for permission. The tower then checks if all the requirements are fulfilled and will advise appropriately. To hail ATC, cycle one of your ship MFDs to the “Comms” panel and select the hail symbol for the desired port.

New Locations

  • Levski: Levski is a base built directly into the rock on the asteroid Delamar. The base was originally an active mining facility but, after being left derelict for a number of years, new residents moved in and it became a hotbed for political radicals & criminals. The main areas are controlled by various political groups with a strong anti-UEE sentiment and they try to keep order best they can. Levski has the choice of numerous shops spread across multiple floors with many missions available. You can access Levski by foot, ship or ground vehicle.
  • Shops: New items (clothing, armor, weapons, components) added to shop inventory. Added Dumper’s Depot to major locations.

AI Subsumption

  • We have introduced the basics of subsumption. You should now see NPCs going about their daily lives at all 3 major landing zones (Grim Hex, Port Olisar, and Levski).

Turret System

  • Updated Turrets: Turrets have been updated with the addition of targeting deadzones, movement ranges that prevent you from shooting your own ship, an updated UI, and a staggered fire mode.
  • Automated Turrets: You will find automated turrets defending Port Olisar, Security Post Kareah, and the various Comm Arrays. These turrets will automatically engage and fire at wanted criminals.

Kiosks

  • We have introduced shop Kiosks. The main variants of the Kiosk will be used for buying/selling commodities (cargo). The intention is that you will have separate inventories at each station and major landing zone. Kiosks will only be able to interact with items that are local to the shop’s location. The kiosk will be able to interrogate, and manipulate, any cargo, loadout, or the inventory of these local elements. By default, the kiosk will show everything you have access to in that location, but will be able to drill down to facilitate any specific ship cargo manifest.

Dynamic Inventories and Pricing

  • Locations have variable commodity pricing that will fluctuate over-time based on stock levels and restock rates. At the moment, this only effects cargo purchased at kiosks and is only present at major spawn locations (Levski, GrimHex, and Port Olisar).

Afterburner

  • There is now a single afterburner with the ability to achieve higher top velocity under certain conditions, giving us AB SCM and AB Cruise with the only distinction being two different speeds.

Quantum Travel System

  • Quantum travel (QT) destinations are now selected via the MobiGlas Starmap app or via the 3D radar Starmap on appropriate ships.
  • Whether or not an object can be targeted for QT is determined by the drive’s detection range and is based off gravitational values. The larger the object the further away you can detect it and large objects with small objects in orbit drown out their detection capabilities at long ranges. This means you will not be able to travel from point A to B at all times, but instead may need to move into orbit of a larger body to detect destinations also in orbit. For example, to get to a station orbiting a moon that orbits a planet, the route is Planet>Moon>Station.
  • There’s now a short range quantum travel speed variant for moving around different orbital points of moons and small planetary bodies.
  • Quantum travel speeds, spooling time, and cooldown times are variable based on the size and quality of the drive.

Mission System

  • The missions system has been revamped with new missions, mission givers, and greater variety. Each of the below missions has many variants and types, including lawful/unlawful, and many can be done in cooperation with other players. Some variants will require the player to gain a certain kind of reputation, which itself can be earned by doing different types of missions or by your actions within the verse.
    • Delivery
    • Deploy
    • Recovery
    • AI Bounty Hunt
    • AI Assassination
    • Collection
    • Waste disposal
    • Patrol
    • Derelict investigation
    • Escort
    • Mission Givers: Ruto and Eckhart

Interdiction and Environmental Missions

  • AI now have the capability to interdict players during quantum travel, forcing them to drop out of quantum. In addition, there are random environmental encounters scattered throughout the verse.

Doors and Airlocks

  • Doors and airlocks have been updated with additional functionality.
  • Introduced basic ship security including the ability to lock and unlock your ships to control access.

And there are 2 packs & 5 packs as well as 2 with a starfarer available at a discount.

The Nox is expected to cost $45 once flight-ready.

And it looks to be Flight Ready with the 3.0 Live Release soon.

Vital Stats

It has 2 Size 1 hardpoints for weapons coming with 2 M3a Laser Cannons.

It’s components are geared towards racing with competition parts whereas the Dragonfly has civilian ones which are more balanced.

It has competition standard Xi’An Engines that should give the ship a lot of speed & agility.

The Nox has a top SCM speed of 220 with Afterburner of 550.

On the ground it will float 1 meter above the ground at around 100m per second.

Nox Sizes | 5.5m long x 1.5 wide x 1.5 high

The Nox can be carried in any ship that has enough room in it’s cargo hold, and therefore SECURED there. This includes Freelancer, Cutlass (new) and Constellation as well as larger ships. For smaller ships with cargo space like the Reliant & Avenger, it can physically fit but it cannot be secured. This may lead to damage or destruction of both ships. Securing ships in Cargo areas is a mechanic that will be in Alpha 3.0

What do We Know About The Ship?

  • The Nox is more geared towards racing & combat whereas the Dragonfly is more focused at exploring and scouting & looting.
  • The Nox protects it’s pilot with armor that comes up above the rider’s back to guard a little more from behind potentially giving it’s pilot more protection than the Dragonfly and has a windscreen fully covering the front of the rider.
  • The Nox is 1 Seater & the pilot seat themselves like a racing bike compared with the upright seating of the Dragonfly which also has the bonus of being able to have an addition rear facing passenger.
  • It can be used in Space & on a Planets surface.
  • The Bike uses a holographic HUD that will be projected when you start it up.
  • It is faster & more maneuverable than the Dragonfly, tho The Nox won’t be as good on coarse terrain as the Dragonfly is, this may make the Dragonfly more competitive in certain races.
  • It can be stored in Cargo Bays of ships with enough room & it is smaller than the Dragonfly 5.5m long x 1.5 wide x 1.5 high compared to the dragonfly which is 6.5 long x 2.25 wide x 1.25 high. So that means potentially more Noxes in ships. Like the Cutlass, Freelancer & anything with an appropriately large cargobay.
  • They are suitable as light short range escorts, for ships that can deploy them.
  • The Nox is unable to enter OR exit atmosphere without the aid of a parent ship.
  • The Ship does not have a quantum OR jump drive

  • The Nox can use all it’s thrusters on the ground, it can’t really fly or anything once in gravity BUT it can use boosts of speed to do some cool maneuvers & it will be fast enough to cross water and oceans.
  • Armor is still being balanced & certain armor may restrict what seats you can sit in. They haven’t confirmed what armor will be restricted while riding the Nox OR any other ship for that matter.
  • All ships can travel pretty much indefinitely in SCM mode, Afterburner fuel is limited tho.
  • It hovers at all times, using emergency power, no landing gear.
  • Currently the Nox will lean with you when you strafe, and when you are done with the yaw portion of the turn, you will continue to lean until you stop skidding.
  • The Nox has NO space for extra storage at all, only what you character carries. The Dragonfly has an advantage here with the ability to take cargo OR another passenger.
  • You’ll probably be able to paint your ship and add decals to quite a high level of customization. BUT the sovereignty of limited edition “skins” or “versions” will still be there, it’s still going to have that original special finish feel. They exploring the idea of unique badges and identifiers for the limited edition variants.  While you may be able to paint a standard Nox silver in the future, it won’t ever be a “Nox Kue.”
  • In the future we will be able to switch components out of the Dragonfly & Nox, there will be better Competition Grade Components for Racing BUT probably ones more combat, stealth orientated or other role focused types too. They are vehicle sized components which are smaller than the Ship Small/Light Components.
  • The Nox has the ability to manage it’s emissions & components to be more stealthy, just like every other ship & vehicle.
  • The Nox is designed for speed, travel & racing. It will be very good at flanking on the ground too, due to it’s speed and 2 size 1 fixed weapons, it has no ability to change these for gimbals tho.
  • It’s possible that if the ship entirely loses power that it could fall out of the air & possibly trap it’s driver / have a crawling out animation OR something, it’s something they are looking into.
